Why Do I Have Oily Roots And Dry Ends?

You're not alone - “combination hair" is as common as combination skin. The skin on your scalp often mirrors the skin on your face, so if you have oily skin, it’s likely you'll experience excess oil production on the scalp! Fine hair is also more prone to oiliness.

What Causes Oily Roots?

Lifestyle, diet, styling, genetics and haircare routine all play into the imbalance.

Another cause of dry hair is use of silicone containing products. Over time silicone builds up, preventing natural oils from penetrating the hair fiber and leading to dry brittle hair.

Extra Washing Is Not The Solution!

While you might think that washing more frequently is the solution, we urge you to back away from the shampoo and try some of these other tips to rebalance your scalp first! Healthy hair requires commitment...like your skincare routine.

How To Make Your Hair More Balanced:

- Brush with the *right* brush helps distribute oils to naturally hydrate hair, sweep debris off the scalp to keep follicles clear (key to healthy hair growth!) and stimulate blood flow.

- Use a clean dry shampoo powder to absorb excess oil and extend the time between washes

- Use scalp treatments like Cake Restorative Scalp Tonic to keep follicles happy and the scalp naturally balanced

- Add Ever Recovery oil into your routine to help seal in moisture and deliver nutrients. (You can also use Ever as a pre-shampoo treatment which is beneficial if you have hard water)

- Mask weekly

- Exfoliate the scalp

- Try to ease off heat styling which only drys hair out further

- Get regular trims! Damaged hair likely has split ends which will only continue to split further up the shaft

- Invest in a shower filter if you have hard water! Hard water can wreak havoc on hair.  We suggest Berkey or Kangen.
