How Often Should I Wash My Hair?

We get this question A LOT. Our founder Garrett Markenson breaks it down:

The Importance of Shampoo:

Shampooing is important to remove build-up and environmental pollution from the scalp, as well as keep the follicles from clogging. Your scalp is skin that produces oil just like your face, so it should be treated with care. Lack of washing along with over-use of dry shampoo can lead to issues such as thinning hair.

Frequency Of Washing:

How often you wash your hair will depend on a few factors and is not one-size-fits-all:

Hair texture

Lifestyle

Product usage

Generally speaking, thin hair should be washed every 2-3 days as it tends to get weighed down easily- if you are someone who works out everyday, embrace styles that work with dirtier hair like a sleek bun. Thick hair can usually go 7 days and textured hair every 10-14 days.

The Best Shampoo For Hair Washing:

You’ll want to be mindful of using a gentle shampoo without sulfates or synthetic fragrance such as Reverie Shampoo and Conditioner.  Focus the shampoo on the roots and double wash for maximum benefit. Between washes be sure to use a scalp treatment and brush thoroughly to distribute oils & sweep debris off of the scalp.
